You put your BALLS in it.
Thanks for all the suggestions! There's lots to do in this city, which is why I love it so much.
Since it was pirates/ocean/fish party...this is going nowhere, isn't it? Anyway, I made 'jello aquariums' for the pirate party. I took some plastic punch cups, filled them with blue Jello, and when halfway set, I suspended a gummi fish in the middle. Pretty neat.
Although if I was to do it again, I'd fill my big ass punch bowl with the jello fishies and make a REALLY BIG aquarium for people to dig out. Only thing is the gummis get...well, gummy. Kinda disgusting. I don't eat Jello anyway since it's just hooves and fingernails. Doesn't stop me from making jello, more jello and even more jello! Hooves are good for you! Blergh.
I also made Brown Sugar Meatballs. I usually make this from scratch and make meatloaf the same way for dinner, but since this is for a party, and had time constraints, this recipe worked. I have a weird thing about people digging out food. Like a whole salad in a bowl, or cutting at a big ol' piece of fish or something. I like individual things. Like the individual somen salads I made for the Best Shower Ever. I must have a phobia about people and touching and portions.
I joined 'Crockpot Challenge' on flickr, where you do a crockpot recipe a week, which isn't bad. I have a love/hate relationship with my crockpot. I'd much rather cook from scratch and do all the prep work, cooking, plating, etc. But I do use it a lot, out of necessity, if I have to work late, or if I am throwing a party. Crockpot challenge sounds like a new Food Network Game show. READY. SET. COOK...AS SLOW AS POSSIBLE.

For parties I'm a fan of individual portions, too. I think because I hate to spend time arranging something to look pretty and then someone hacking into it.
Also, it's easier to eat something off a stick than to have to worry about forks and such.
I like the idea of a crockpot but with the wiring in our building, I'd probably burn the place down using one. And burn dinner.
I may never look at jello the same again.
And YAY for the Crockpot Challenge! You made us a little more legit by joining :) Supa said it best (well, actually it was the Beastie Boys) : "Slow and low that is the tempo." Oh, I know. DORK.
The gummi fish scared Nanette.
yeah, I'd had the same experience when I tried to make a big jello aquarium for the kids in sunday school. the gummy fish are easy, but they just join the jello and it's pretty yucky. I checked the jello sponsored recipe later and they'd used fruit cut into fish shapes instead. but probably not pineapple - that turns jello into liquid.
still, your party looked excellent. as always. good job!
