Jack: What?! Where do you invest your money, Lemon?
Liz: I've got like twelve grand in checking.
Jack: Are you an immigrant?

For those of your hanging in there...I'm having a giveaway tomorrow. Shh.

Lately, life has been a series of highs and lows. There is still a problem and I still have not gotten one single unemployment check. For those keeping score at home, my income is still zero. My intention is not to live off of the government, however - as I'm sure you know, the job market is at a steady....dead. In it's tracks dead. And all my efforts to find a job have lead nowhere.

To kill time, I've been going out to cheap lunches with...other people who have been laid off. (Always at Bluebird for some reason! What gives?) When I see that all these intelligent, well qualified people can't find work either, I have to say I don't feel like such a sad sack.Whenever I go meet up with people I like to bring baked goods, of course. At least baking is keeping me busy. In my last 'hey we don't have jobs let's go sip iced tea for two hours' meet-up, I made something lemon-y, surprise, surprise. Only I made these with olive oil. I have been wanting to make cake with olive oil for some time now, and the abundance of lemons gave me the perfect opportunity because the combination is terrific.

I should spin my virtual rolodex of fellow lay-off-ees, and then spin a separate one of my recipes. Then I'd have the perfect combo, and a filled social calendar.

I had been on the same boat for almost two months and then just took this job (which pays less) because I couldn't find anything. All my other interviews led to nothing.. sad.

Hang in there with the unemployment. I am also in the architecture field and collecting (although thankfully my hours were only reduced by 30% not 100%) and it took a long time to start getting the checks but when they came, they all came at once. And good luck with the job searching too, from what I hear it sounds like CA is one of the hardest hit for Architecture.

I'd love to take you to lunch, but my damn work schedule gets in the way. I hope things turn around for you and all of your friends soon.

Darn! My capchta is one letter off from "cylon." That would've been so cool!

Hope you find something soon. Since you love to bake you should sell your bakery goodies on etsy.com I think you'd do really well! Best of luck to you!

This job market is so bad it should be declared a national emergency. Get FEMA in here!

In the mean time I am going to sit around thinking about this baking with olive oil idea and wondering why I haven't tried it yet. Also cursing my current weightloss mandate, which pretty much means I can't eat any cupcakes.

ugh, jobs. i was laid offa year ago, at the beginning of this mess, and i know what you're feeling. try not to feel like a sad sack, at least professionally (economically, financially, whathaveyou, you go right ahead and cry). you clearly rock, and that will turn into something jobalicious for you, hopefully very, very soon.

Sorry to hear that the situation isn't getting any better but you're doing the right things. AS for those cupcake liners, they're adorable!
