Just play a bit of music and he falls straight asleep... I shouldn't have told you that!

What I miss the most about Hawaii is the soft, delicious shave ice. I'm always on the hunt for the closest thing that will cost less than a plane ticket back to the islands. So when I found out about Fluff Ice, it was so different, I couldn't wait to try it.

It's the only store of it's kind and it's located in Monterey Park. Think: the softest, fluffiest shave ice you've ever had...but flavored! Yes, genius - the ice already has flavor frozen inside of it, so there are no syrup toppings. What a concept! The 'fluff' is chunky and flavorful and the perfect bite of cold, sweet, goodness.

It's rather large, the small is like a bucket and the large, well - is gigantor. There's more than enough to share IF you are the sharing type. There is a variety of toppings and since this was a special treat, the kids got strawberry fluff with mini gummi bears and mochi balls. Ew. Sweet overload.

I would suggest going more middle of the road with the regular milk fluff or chocolate fluff and some fruit toppings. Or there is always the Japanese standard: green tea fluff with sweet red bean and mochi balls. Mmm, you can never go wrong with mochi balls.

Way over in the SGV it's a long haul (like 50 miles round trip) from the Westside, but worth it if you're heading that direction, OR you are just sick of the summer heat and looking for something different and delicious.

I hope Fluff ice expands to more locations across Los Angeles, because it's a truly inventive and refreshing treat.

Have you heard about Get Shaved in Torrance? They used to only have food trucks, but they have a shop near Mitsuwa now. It's very similar to Matsumoto's.
