Battle of Yavin shirt

A group of friends of mine get together every few months for a Geek Girl Craft Day. Crafting in a group is the best because ideas seem to flow and everyone is super encouraging. We even have a pinterest board to collect ideas for future craft days.

I realized that I never put up the tutorial from our last craft day, where I made a Battle of Yavin blouse. It's so ridiculously easy you'll want to make a ton of them, I promise.

you'll need:
a sheet of lightweight plastic
fabric paint
a small brush
mod podge sealant
a fine detailed brush

I had an old blouse that originally had embroidered flowers on the side, but they were poorly sewn on and had fallen off. I loved the cut of the blouse so much that I couldn't bear to part with it so repurposing seemed like the best idea.

To start, I printed out an image of the Star Wars ships in silhouettes and resized them to the right size that would fit on the side of my blouse. Then I placed the print under a sheet of plastic, then cut out the images. Now I had a plastic template that I could use over and over again.

Make sure you place a sheet of paper or cardboard inside the shirt, between the front and the back so the paint won't seep through. Then place the plastic template on top of the shirt and using a small brush and fabric paint, paint the image.

Let the paint dry, then go back and touch up small areas with a detail brush. The final touch - again using a detail brush, go back with a sealant like Mod Podge and go over the image you've painted.

Like I said, the best part about a plastic template is that you can use it over and over again. I made baby onesies...

...and a friend used it to add Tie Fighters to her glittered shoes! The crafting possibilities are endless!
