unique Valentine's Day gifts

If you're looking for a creative gift for Valentine's Day, I've done the work for you! Here's a list of unique items that are great options instead of the same old candy and flowers.

These are all made by very talented artists and friends and buying their work not only supports indie designers but more importantly it shows that you have awesome taste.

All of these gifts are a great way to say 'I like you', 'I love you' or just 'Hey, you're wonderful.'

Cutebricks
Legos and jewelry, two great things that go great together. I first saw Cutebricks at Geek Girl Con which is a fitting venue to display such amazing geeky works of art.

Earrings, necklaces, rings - some of them are even painted a shiny metallic that make them look like actual metal. It's genius that two everyday Lego pieces can be interlocked in a perfect heart. Talk about love.

Love and Capes
Love and Capes by Thom Zahler is the story of a typical couple. Abby owns a bookstore and Mark is an accountant...who is also a superhero known as the Crusader. See? Typical relationship. Really though, Love and Capes is a wonderful comic that follows the lives of Abby and the Crusader with all the superhero stuff almost being secondary. Well, not exactly secondary but think of superheroism as a fantastically fun subplot to an adorable romantic comedy.

Start from the beginning with Love and Capes volume 1 which can be found in the Love and Capes store online or on amazon
One of the coolest things about Love and Capes is that for every comic-con he attends, Thom creates a drawing featuring the host city as an exclusive for that show and all those prints are available online. As a site seeing enthusiast I love how the characters are incorporated into each location's cultural landmarks and scenery. I think this would be a great gift for a couple who truly love the city they live in.

Mike Maihack
Mike Maihack draws webcomics and books, like the beautiful Cleopatra in Space. He also is known for his adorable fan comics featuring Batgirl and Supergirl. MIke's work is thoughtful and fun, and I've collected several of his prints over the years.

I love all of Mike's art but this Luv Ninjas print has always had a special place in my heart. It's sweet, powerful and full of love.

Plastique
Plastique is laser cut acrylic jewelry with designs that are minimally modern and beautiful.

There are tiny turntable rings and awesome shoutouts to your home city but my favorites will always be the fonts and design pieces.

For Valentine's Day there is this sweet 'Love Set' that comes with a necklace, earrings and a too cute for words arrow and heart ring. Smart and funny, Plastique jewelry is unique and eyecatching.

 justJENN designs - geeky valentines
Yes, these are my own designs. Two of the best sci fi franchises ever made, these Star Wars and Star Trek valentines are perfect for February 14 but intensely geeky enough to send out year round. If you don't know what Pon Farr is, well...google it.
